Who We Are

Cambridge Law Studio is a UK-based specialist in Legal English training for international lawyers and law students. Established in 1999, we help legal professionals around the world improve their commercial legal English, develop practical contract drafting skills and prepare effectively for success in gaining a prestigious TOLES certificate.

Our History

Founded as the first UK language school dedicated solely to teaching English to lawyers, Cambridge Law Studio built a strong international reputation through its in-person programs hosted at Girton College, Cambridge.

From 1999 to July 2025, we welcomed lawyers and law students from more than 40 countries to our super-intensive, in-person courses held at Girton College.

In July 2025, we became a fully online distance-learning provider. Today, all training is delivered through flexible, on-demand programs designed for busy modern lawyers.

Online Courses and Programmes

We provide structured, practical Legal English training focused on real commercial work:

    • The Illuminate Commercial Legal English Program (On-Demand) A multi-module legal English course covering commercial law vocabulary, grammar, and style, to make a lawyer’s communication much more accurate and professional.
    • Drafting Commercial Contracts in English (On-Demand) A practical course teaching lawyers the specialized vocabulary needed to draft clear, modern, enforceable commercial contracts in English.
    • TOLES Self-Study Packages We offer complete self-study preparation for all three levels of the Test of Legal English Skills (TOLES). Every TOLES candidate receives a certificate, making the TOLES qualification ideal for CVs and professional development portfolios. The TOLES legal English certificate does not expire!

Cambridge Law Studio is accredited by ASIC (Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges & Universities) as a Premier College for the period 2025–2029.

Our Roles in TOLES

Cambridge Law Studio has been a Registered TOLES Exam Centre since 2000 and took part in the early development of TOLES teaching materials and exam preparation resources. Our TOLES courses are used by international law firms, in-house legal teams, and global university English language faculties.

Leadership

Cambridge Law Studio is directed by Catherine Mason, an experienced Legal English trainer and the author of multiple best-selling legal English textbooks, online courses, and teaching materials. She is one of the founders of the TOLES certificates and has trained thousands of lawyers worldwide.

From Cambridge in 1999 to the online classroom we have now, our mission has remained the same: to provide practical, professional Legal English training that improves career prospects and enhances real-world performance in international legal work.
